Middle School
6th through 8th Grade
Bio-Neurological research shows that middle school is where the brain starts to specialize. As students increase their learning in our STEAM focused areas, our instructors are implementing advanced reasoning concepts, building upon their educational foundations. Our middle school students receive engaging and project based instruction, that keeps them excited about learning. At St. Andrew’s, we understand the incredible growth our middle school students will achieve during this time and we strive to meet the specific needs of students who are found at all points along the developmental continuum at St. Andrew’s. Our program is peer-driven and provides this unique age group multiple opportunities to learn about cooperation, tolerance, competition and empathy.
Middle School instruction at St. Andrew’s builds upon the academic and social-emotional foundations learned in elementary grades. It expands concepts in Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies. Academic instruction employs strategies that build skills in conceptual reasoning, problem solving and logical thinking. Students have classroom advisors, designed to support each student in all areas of life. This allows students the comfort of having a faculty liaison that is there for academic and social support. Middle School students attend weekly elective classes, which include Spanish, Art, Chorus, Orchestra, Theater and Christian Education.

These efforts positively impact a student’s development at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Academy. Our blended learning model allows students to use digital and information technology resources, safely guided by our faculty. Middle school instructors facilitate the student driven, hands-on education that encourages our students to push farther and expand their horizons.
At St. Andrew’s Episcopal Academy, our experiential instruction model provides opportunities for middle school students to process and reinforce the new information and to connect the new information with previous learning. As thinking and learning become more abstract in 6th, 7th and 8th grade, our students have a predictable and safe environment that allows them to take risks, explore, and grow. Middle school reinforces our students’ confidence within themselves, so that when challenges or obstacles occur, they have the courage to persevere. Our middle school instructors facilitate and structure these experiences for students to shape the belief in their own capabilities, resulting in a student body that can problem solve and critically think in a purposeful way.
As a member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools and embracing the Episcopal Tradition, we include a weekly chapel service that is creative, inclusive, draws fully upon the liturgical resources of The Episcopal Church, and is a regular part of school life for all faculty and students. Community life, in which reflection, prayer, and matters of the spirit are honored and cultivated and the physical, mental, and emotional health of all are supported and nurtured. Character formation and study that is meaningful, academically substantive, and age-appropriate; and in teaching the Christian tradition, fosters dialogue with other faith traditions. Social justice, which is the integration of the ideals and concepts of equity, justice, and a just society throughout the life of the school; the embracing and honoring of diversity; and the inclusion of community service and service-learning as an integral part of the life of the school. It is in middle school, where our Christian education expands into learning about major world religions and issues of morality.
Competitive interscholastic sports are offered to our middle school students. Our coaching team prioritizes education and its symbiotic relationship with sports.
